All we need is…love? series, Hollywood’s take on God’s script and is it loving to stop the boats?

Please pray for some of our upcoming events in the city ministry

Keep in mind that all events are designed with an evangelistic focus. We look to introduce the Gospel into the conversation on all topics.

Is it loving to stop the boats?

In Australia, the immigration question is continually in the media. Being an island nation, many people try to enter the country via boats. The government decided to stop the boats from coming to Australia.

There are protests, news articles and everyone has an opinion. What do you call the people who are coming across the oceans to come to Australia? How do you define the decision:  a safety issue, immigration or humanitarian? There are passionate arguments on both sides of the discussion.

Please pray for this balanced conversation with panellists who come with different experiences with this topic.

Panellists:

Katie Wrigley is the Principal Solicitor at the Refugee Advice and Casework Service (RACS) a not for profit, community legal centre that provides free legal advice and assistance to people seeking refugee status in Australia. Ross Cameron  represented the seat of Parramatta as Liberal Federal MP for three terms during the Howard era, serving as Parliamentary Secretary to the Hon Peter Costello. Greg Lake is a public speaker, blogger/author, consultant and public policy commentator. Greg worked for the Department of Immigration managing Immigration Detention Centres (IDCs).

All we need is… love?

The central theme of the Bible is love, but what does that really mean?

When Jesus says, love your enemies, love your neighbour and to love God, is that the same love we have for our favourite restaurant, football team or friend?

Please pray for Ian Powell as he shares about what the Bible means by this confusing word, love. He will help us to understand how we can apply it to our enemies, neighbours and God.

11/12 June Love your enemies: You can’t be serious!
18/19 June Love your neighbour: Who is my neighbour?
25/26 June Love God: What does that mean?

June will be an exciting month at The Forum.

Hollywood’s take on God’s Script

Noah, Son of God, Passion of the Christ…

Since the beginning of celluloid history, Hollywood has gone to the Bible for story ideas.

Reviews are mixed on the value of these films on telling God’s story, but what do the experts think?

We will be talking with some of the film thought leaders on this topic at The Forum.

Come along on 2/3 July as The Forum goes to the Flicks.

Also, get balanced reviews for film from a Biblical perspective on Russelling Reviews
