The Australian Dream, Abraham and Life Under Pressure

Prayer points for May 2014

This month at the Forum: The Australian Dream?

Is there more than a house, a holiday and a Holden (Australian Chevy)? The Australian dream has always been defined by these three things. Is it enough or is there more?

The talks start on 7 May: Topics – Is it all about money?, Rest: land of the disappearing weekend, Lifestyle: I came from the land of plenty and The Castle: are we dreaming’?

Pray the talks will direct all who come to the answer to life, Jesus.

Rouse Hill Bible Church: The life of Abraham

Pastor Kwok and I will be speaking through Genesis and the life of Abraham.

Life Under Pressure – Daniel series

For many of our evangelistic Bible Reading groups in the city, we will explore how God is in control of this world. Despite appearances at times and that God expects his people to co-operate but not compromise in the way they live in this world.

Thanks for keeping us in your prayers,

The Matthews

An open letter to our supporters

As we prepare for furlough or US ministry, it can be daunting to look at all the meetings to be organised, the travel to the US and around the country and time away from our home and ministries in Australia. Over the last year, we have been trying to get in contact with all of our supporters through email, letters or phone calls. As we look over this list of partners in the ministry, one feeling tends to overwhelm us, thankfulness.

We have been raising support for over 11 years and we have been in Australia for over eight years. Throughout that time, supporters have come and gone, support levels have changed and many of you have been exceptionally generous during financially challenging times that have come up throughout our ministry life. We know that it is not always easy to keep giving, but we pray you are blessed by your faithfulness.

Furlough (or US ministry) can be considered a time for missionaries to raise support. Realistically, that is part of the process. But as we look through our list of supporters names we are thankful.  As we come to your churches or into your homes, we hope the message that walk away with one of thankfulness.

Thank you.

It may be a simple thing to say, but it is not minimalistic in its meaning. We are thankful for your your prayers and support.

Thank you for supporting our family.
Thank you for supporting the spread of the Gospel in a spiritually dark place of the world.
Thank you for your prayers.
Thank you for communicating with us.
Thank you for your friendship.
Thank you for your partnership in the Gospel.
Thank you for your love for our family And our Saviour.

We praise The Lord for you.

Fun facts about Sydney, Questioning Faith and Genesis

Fun Sydney facts: We are still amazed how little people know about Sydney and Australia. Prior to our furlough, we thought we would share some fun facts about this amazing city.

1. Sydney Harbour is the deepest natural harbour in the world with 504,00 mega litres of water.

2. Sydney is the 12th most expensive city in the world with property prices averaging USD8,717 per square metre.

3. The Sydney Harbour Bridge is the widest long-span bridge and tallest steel arch bridge in the world, and the 5th longest spanning-arch bridge according to Guinness World Records.

Questioning Faith at The Forum in April

Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed and an Atheist walk into The Forum….

At the Forum, we will look at the key different faiths (or lack of faith). Next week to the end of April the irrepressible Ian Powell will investigate the questions the world faiths seek to answer about peace, paradise, truth and freedom. An excellent opportunity for enquirers to ask their curly questions during Q&A!

Please pray for these evangelistic opportunities and for people to come along. We had record breaking attendance for the Resurrection Inquest! Thank you for your prayers.

Rouse Hill Bible Church

The Hosea series is complete and we are currently in a short money series. Easter will be an exciting time and then we will begin a Genesis series.

We are loving the church and the opportunity to serve alongside the church family at RHBC.
